Marketo Minutes: No Code Email Templates

Michael Tucker

You are a Marketing Specialist in a medium size company. Your main role is to send out the marketing emails through Adobe Marketo Engage. Currently your programs are using default email templates that came with your Adobe Marketo Engage Instance. Every email, you update the appearance to come as close to your company’s brand identity as you can. With daily, and multiple weekly emails to launch, you are finding yourself short on time. If only you had the time and expertise to build a customized template or two.

Building a pre-formatted email template doesn't have to be hard to do. In fact, you don’t have to worry about the hundreds, or thousands, of lines of code that it takes to build out a template at all!

In this week’s Marketo Minutes episode, Michael Tucker demonstrates the importance of brand guidelines and how you can create branded email templates without manipulating the code involved with these templates.

What do Adobe Marketo Engage and MailChimp have in common?

In email marketing platforms, such as MailChimp, you can design emails to match your brand guidelines through drag and drop modules starting with a basic email template pre-loaded into the site. Within the design studio of Adobe Marketo Engage, you can find a similar functionality.

How does this help me?

Your brand has elements that remain consistent so that it has a distinct feel that resonates with your audience, right? Think about your trade dress – your colors, fonts, and voice in your messaging.

The real benefit to using a customized template is you can now quickly update the content for your email and send it out without taking additional time for formatting and branding. Create additional templates for many different types of email communications such as:

  • newsletters
  • priority alerts
  • product releases
  • event reminders

Templates allow for consistency in the appearance and method of your communications and always maintaining your company’s brand with minimal effort.

Why is it worthwhile to custom code a template?

The above example of modifying a preinstalled Adobe Marketo Engage template doesn’t involve any coding. But, if you don’t have to hire a developer, then why would anyone want to custom code an email template?

Protecting your Brand

If your templates can be easily modified by anyone, then they can also be changed or modified by anyone with email template edit capabilities. Custom coding allows you to restrict who can make changes to your templates and what they’re allowed to change.

Complete brand identity

There’s only so much of your own branding that you can develop from a template that was pre-designed by Adobe Marketo Engage. If you’re making enough changes, it’s easier and takes less hours to just build your own branded template from scratch.

As an Adobe partner, we’ve helped to create many specialized templates to match your brand identity. We have a specialized process for creating custom, on-brand email templates. Learn more about how this process streamlines your email templates to work with brands like yours.
